For many young youth in the Black culture navigating mispronounced and shortened identities, learning when to stay quiet instead of speaking up.
Many children especially children of color experience early messages that discourage self-expression or minimize cultural identity.
This is why I created My Brown My Confidence a culturally affirming children’s book that supports identity, respect, confidence, and most importantly representation in the form of literacy.
